Start the day with a grateful heart!!!!
Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God´s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
When we are grateful we will always leave footprints in other people's lives. A simple gesture of gratitude can make the day different for those around us. A grateful heart testifies to others the great wonders that God has done in his life. He does not tire of proclaiming the greatness of the Lord, but knows that in doing so he gives honor to the one who fills him with grace and favor. Someone who constantly receives God's favor lives to bless others, because he has understood that it is better to give than to receive and that everything he sows to others will be multiplied by his Heavenly Father.
Our heart is grateful; with the Heavenly Father first of all, but also with you who continue to support us with prayers, resources and time. We only hope that the measure of our gratitude is that which delights God. We have been greatly blessed and thanks to this we have been able to leave footprints in our community. On this occasion we want to share with you some of the wonders that have been happening in our community center and community during the last few months.
SUMMER CAMP
In July the children of the community started their vacation in the amazing camp we organized for them. We had a very fun week with a deep ocean theme and they learned to “Dive into friendship with God”. We felt very grateful to the local church Familia de Dios who supported us with many things to complete our decoration and materials to make games. At the end of the week we gave the children backpacks with school supplies that our friends from Living Word Chapel Church brought during their trip to bless our community and they were the ones who helped us decorate all our classrooms for the camp.
HOPE ADVENTURES
As we have said before, a trip can impact many lives. The missionary groups that we host, whether for a weekend or a full week, make a big difference in our community by carrying out different community, evangelistic or construction projects.
On this occasion we were visited by a group of missionaries from the Living Word Chapel church who, as a project, made some benches to improve the hospitality of the people who visit our community center, decorated each one of the rooms for the summer camp of our children, helped us serve breakfast on the first day of camp and brought backpacks and school supplies that they prepared to bless the students of our community in this back to school. The truth is that having them for that weekend in July was a great blessing. But also, upon returning to their homes, they have helped us to share with their acquaintances the mission of our community center and have helped us to collect some donations as tools to support us to improve the conditions of the maintenance work of the community center and the programs of house of hope and decent housing.
BACK TO SCHOOL
As we do every year, we held our “Back to School” event. This time we approached 4 of the schools with the greatest need in our city (two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school) and, with the help of the teachers, we identified the students who still did not have school supplies and we invited them to our annual event where we give them what they need to start their school year. On this occasion we had the opportunity to offer a breakfast to the children and their parents, we shared a message of hope encouraging them to give their best effort in this school year and we had a time of coexistence with the children and their families.
SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS
Our high school and college students returned to school at the beginning of August. We are very happy to share with you that this school year three new high school students have entered our scholarship program. Three of our young people graduated from high school and have started college this year. Without a doubt, the lives of our 29 young people in the program are being changed forever thanks to the support that some of you continue to give year after year.
WOMEN OF HOPE
Many know that in Mexico, September is a month of patriotic celebrations to mark the anniversary of our independence, so we took the opportunity to celebrate with the women of our community with a Mexican fiesta filled with lots of color, folklore, games, Mexican snacks, as well as a time of reflection with a message of hope for them and their homes.
MEDICAL CLINICS
Those who leave indelible marks in our community month after month are the doctors, students and volunteers who dedicate one day each month to bring health services to the families who need them most in our city. Without a doubt, the impact you make is great and we are grateful to count on each one of you to continue loving and changing the lives of our people. In July we had the opportunity to serve around 250 people in our medical clinics in Sonoyta and Puerto Peñasco. After a break during the month of August, in September, we resumed our clinics; in a very blessed journey with many specialists and volunteers who served about 130 patients, in addition we supported six people from the community with two knee prosthesis surgeries and 4 hernia surgeries. Thank you very much to each person who makes possible all these benefits in our community, it is an honor to receive you and work as a team with you.
OPPORTUNITIES TO SHARE HOPE
As a faith-based community center, we operate through the collaboration of volunteers and full-time staff; also, donations are a very important part of what allows us to continue serving the community of Puerto Peñasco. From financial donations to donations of items, your generosity helps Words of Hope support families in our community and expand our reach. We offer several ways to get involved; from short-term volunteering to sponsoring our various programs, we appreciate your support.
Below is a list of the general areas we accept, with a link to a more comprehensive list.
Thank you for being a part of all that God allows us to do to show His love to families in our community.
